Practice Areas

Mr. Hatzel provides comprehensive, around-the-clock support to the Firm’s maritime and energy clients. He brings extensive and broad experience pertaining to emergency response, incident investigation, license defense, and regulatory compliance.

He also maintains an active litigation practice representing clients of all sizes in federal, state, and administrative proceedings all across the Gulf of Mexico region. Notwithstanding the modern-day realities of commercial dispute resolution, his specific experience includes a number of trials, both in front of a jury and before the judge, and numerous federal appeals. He helps clients with a wide range of matters including maritime personal injury, maritime collision, cargo claims (both maritime and otherwise), maritime salvage, and maritime contract disputes.

Mr. Hatzel was third in his class at the University of Pittsburgh and worked for Maersk—one of the world’s largest vessel operators - before attending law school at the University of Houston Law Center. In law school, he served as an editor for the Houston Law Review, was elected to the Order of the Barons, and reached the national elimination rounds of the Judge John R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition two years in a row. He joined Legge Farrow immediately thereafter.

He is an active member of the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, and the organization recently elected him to serve as Houston’s representative on its Board of Directors.
