Mr. Kimmitt divides his time in the areas of trial law and commercial transactions. He received his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1985, where he served as President of the Student Bar Association and as an officer in the Board of Barristers. He received his undergraduate degree in History and Political Science in 1979 from the University of Texas at El Paso. Upon graduation, he joined the VISTA ( Volunteers In Service to America) program where he started a center for troubled youth in the Tacoma, Washington area.
Jerry currently has a very diverse practice with the majority of his docket working with many insurers in the London Market as well as representing U.S. companies in all manner of litigation and transactional issues. He handles commercial matters, subrogation files for insurers, insurance coverage disputes, personal injury suits, and a wide array of liability claims in both state and federal courts in Texas and other states, as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court. He has partnered with clients on varied matters in the areas of first party insurance claims in both the marine and non-marine areas, focusing on all aspects of property claims, cargo claims, injury and trucking claims. Similarly, Jerry has had the privilege of representing many clients in the US Energy market - including lease operators, non-operators, and all types of contractors, in both the onshore and offshore energy fields.
Jerry has been married for over 28 years to his wife Beverly, who he met while they were both in law school. They have two wonderful daughters, Mary and Emily, who are both intent on carrying on the family legal tradition. Jerry is active in the Houston community having previously served on the School Boards of St. Agnes Academy and John Paul II Catholic School as well as being a volunteer for the Houston Habitat for Humanity and other local charitable and community groups.
Jerry has spoken at many conferences on various insurance and indemnity topics of interest to the defense bar and to the insurance communities, including issues of additional insured status, indemnity, and Prompt Payment of Claims Statutes.
