Marine & Energy
Representing clients in the marine and offshore energy sectors is a specialty of Legge, Farrow, Kimmitt, McGrath & Brown, L.L.P. Our lawyers are adept at navigating the legal and factual issues attendant to today's maritime-based industries. Our clients are involved in brown-water and blue-water operations as well as oilfield services and production. They include owners, operators and charterers of general cargo, tank, towing, salvage, seismic and offshore drilling and oilfield support vessels. We also represent clients in casualty investigations, civil penalty and license proceedings and state administrative proceedings. We handle claims for self-insured clients, as well as domestic and foreign underwriters and protection and indemnity clubs.
Four of our attorneys are former merchant marine officers with experience on ocean-going tankers, as well as offshore supply, geophysical and brown water vessels. We are well aware that our clients in the marine and energy sectors operate twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. Our attorneys are available on that same basis.
We specialize in defending claims arising in the marine workplace, including those involving personal injury, property damage, cargo loss and damage, collision, salvage and allision. We are familiar with the federal legislative and regulatory framework in which marine-based industries operate, including the Jones Act, the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, the state and federal oil pollution acts, and the regulations of federal agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, the Maritime Administration and state agencies with parallel jurisdiction.
